Mayur, a 7th-grade boy from Goa, belongs to a very poor family. His father remains unemployed and is an alcoholic. His mother does seasonal labor for very low wages. Some older village boys used to send Mayur to buy alcohol and tobacco. Two forcefully made him to drink until he became addicted to alcohol. After attending Personal Transformation Program lessons at a HoPE Learning Center, he approached the teacher and told her about the problem that he was facing. The teacher guided him back into sobriety. Not only has he given up drinking alcohol, but he also excels in academics and activities. Personal Transformation Program curriculum ended a family’s cycle of addiction.
