In areas of Southern India, like Tiruttani, it is all too common for senior citizens who can no longer work as laborers to be left to fend for themselves without family support. Some live alone or with an aged spouse, while others must also care for dependent children left by others in their families who could not support them. Without physical strength to work, these elderly people often become homeless and are forced to beg in order to survive.
Fortunately, due to your generous contributions, Hope volunteers and staff members have been able to identify destitute men and women. Each recipient is provided for by an individual philanthropist sponsor, and is given rations of groceries, medications and personal sanitation items on a monthly basis.
Here we see Mr. Tulasi and his wife receiving a care package delivered to their door by our volunteers. It contains rice, toor dal, sunflower oil, chili powder, pepper, cumin seeds, mustard, pickles, bath soap, washing soap, shampoo, tooth powder, coconut oil, cough syrup, and pain relieving gel.
No longer having to beg in order to survive has restored pride and dignity to Mr. Tulasi and his wife and given them hope for a better future. To their sponsor and all of you who give to help others in need through Tripura Foundation, we wish you many thanks and blessings in the coming year!
