Alone, she lives very meagerly on a minimal pension provided by the government.
Her hands were most affected by Leprosy, so much so that she was not able to use them. With no one to take care of her, she began visiting her local Primary Health Center to obtain medicine. She is now partially able to use her hands again. Sadly though, she cannot walk properly and has difficulty moving around.
Kannathaal lives in a small hut built by people in her village. For a while, she survived by begging food from her neighbors. Those who felt pity for her would give her their leftovers.
About the time she began to lose all hope for survival, her sufferings were put to end when Tripura Foundation found her and began helping her. She now receives monthly food, clothing and basic living supplies from our Hope For The Elderly program.
She wholeheartedly thanks our program sponsors and is grateful for our help after her family abandoned her and she thought all hope was lost.
