Tripura Foundation began with the mission of feeding the poor. Our founder, Dr. Baskaran Pillai believes that the greatest thing each of us can do is to serve a meal to someone who is hungry.
He founded Tripura Foundation U.S.A. in 1989. In 1999, dedicated volunteers prepared and delivered hot meals to dwellers in low-income neighborhoods of Chennai, India. Since then, we have been feeding the underprivileged and destitute all over India.
Currently, we annually serve almost a million mini-meals to poor children at our HoPE Learning Centers. Many of these children subsist on watery rice, so the mini-meals are more in quantity and nutrition than their food during the remainder of their days.
In addition, we serve over 75,000 meals each year to destitute elderly people who have been abandoned by loved ones and cannot afford to feed themselves on meager monthly pensions.
Feeding hungry people seems quite basic. It is, and it is also extremely essential, especially because as regions of the western United States recover from years of drought due to the generosity of recent storm clouds, people in India pray for rain, since they are now facing water scarcity, damaged crops, food scarcity and widespread hunger.
Yet, even in times of drought and hunger, solutions are at hand to keep the poorest people fed and alive. YOU are the solution. Every dollar you donate sets healthy food into the hands and mouths of hungry children and elderly people.
